sale dates / sale reports / carlisle 29th may 2002PEDIGREE LIMOUSIN HEIFER CALF SELLS FOR 4,000GNSPedigree Limousin youngstock sold to a top price of 4,000gns for a 10 month old heifer calf, one of four lots at 3,000gns and more, at a collective sale conducted by Harrison & Hetherington at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Wednesday May 29th 2003. The Glenrock and Hudscales herds production sale was joined by consignments from four other pedigree breeders from across the UK to make up a catalogued entry of 100 youngstock.
Topping the trade was Glenrock Sheba from Stephen and Helen Illingworth, of Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. The July 2001 born heifer calf is now the fourth pedigree for the Crookholm herd run by Kay and Andrew Watson and their family farming partnership, KD and DE Millar and Partners, at Crookholm, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. It was the length and conformation as well as the character of the heifer, sired by Neptune and out of Hampton Hebe, which caught Andrew Watsons eye. The Watsons also purchased another 11 month old heifer from the Glenrock herd, Glenrock Savannah for 2,000gns. Savannah is by Nans and out of Glenrock Lydia. The Glenrock herds second top price at 3,000gns was for the
11 month old bull calf Glenrock Shadow, a full brother to Glenrock
OJ which sold for 8,400gns at the Carlisle February 2000 sale. Purchasers
were Nether Hall Farm, Nether Hall, Mansergh, Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth,
Lancashire. The fifth production sale for William Cowxs Hudscales herd, based at Hudscales, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton, Cumbria met a top price of 3,800gns twice for Sarkley OJ-sired bulls - the 13 month old Hudscales Sean and the 10 month old Hudscales Seve. Sean, out of Hudscales Niki, sold to Barrie Farmers, Howburn Farm, Elsrickle, Biggar, Lanarkshire. Hudscales Seve, out of Hudscales Marion, was purchased by near neighbours Messrs Pears, Fellside House Farm, Caldbeck, Wigton, Cumbria. Rombalds Sophie topped the entry for Geoff Rowsons Rombalds herd from Goose Farm, Eastmoor, Sutton on Forest, York. Sophie, an 18 month old heifer by the French sire Dauphin with a beef value of LM23, sold for 2,700gns to Mrs FA Iveson, East Shore, Gayle, Hawes, North Yorkshire. Selling at 2,600gns was the first entry in the catalogue for Alun and Glenys Roberts Hafodlas herd, the 19 month old bull Hafodlas Rolo. Rolo is by stock bull at Hafodlas, Ysbyty Ifan, Betws-Y-Coed, Conwy, North Wales, Hafodlas Llion a son of Broadmeadows Cannon which transmits excellent conformation to pedigree and commercial cows. The Beck herd from WJ Hickson, Knarr Side Farm, Colne, Lancashire, had a top bid of 680gns from RC Mitchell & Sons, Mirkbooths, Raughton Head, Carlisle, Cumbria, for the yearling bull Beck Steve by Espoir. Willie and Joyce Hunters Lowabbey herd at Upper Brydekirk, Annan, Dumfriesshire had a top price of 950gns for the 19 month old heifer Lowabbey Reiki by Heros.
