GREENWELL PRODUCTION SALE

A packed ringside watched the first production sale from the Greenwell pedigree Limousin herd at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Saturday 14th September 2002 when all realised four-figure prices.

Limousin Sale

The sale conducted by Harrison & Hetherington of 42 mature cows and 40 calves from the Greenwell herd at Lanchester, Co Durham for Ian Nattress and his parents John and Jean, saw Greenwell Lassie sell for 3,800gns and her fifth calf, the bull Greenwell Saracen by Gugusse, sell for 3,600gns. Lassie is by the imported bull Daim and is out of Greenwell Chevorn, dam of Greenwell Manager which sold for 9,000gns in October 1997. Purchaser of the cow and calf was Gary Swindlehurst of Procters Farm, Slaidburn, Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Mr Swindlehurst also wrote one of the two cheques for outfits at 5,200gns - Greenwell Lauren, by stock bull Igolo, also with her heifer calf at foot, Grenwell Salome. Procters Farm went on to purchase another cow at 3,800gns. Greenwell Jemma, by the excellent brood cow sire Genial, was sold with her fourth calf, a Novemberr 2001 born bull by Greenwell Manager which sold for 1,800gns also to Procters Farm.

Also paying 5,200gns for Greenwell Milka, a six year old cow by stock bull Igolo was Jim Goldie, of Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries. By Greenwell Ilka, she was sold with her May born heifer calf at foot, Greenwell Tuesday, by Ronick Member.

At 4,500gns was Greenwell Newitt, a five year old cow by Lestgo and out of Greenwell Lassie. She sold with her August-born heifer calf at foot to AW Gibson and Son, Newburgh, Hexham, Northumberland. Mr Gibson also paid 3,800gns for the fifth calver Greenwell Leanne, by Greenwell Ike, sold with her August born heifer calf, Greenwell Tulip.

The first of two bids at 4,200gns was made by Matt Ridley, of Haltcliffe, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton, for the three year old cow Greenwell Phoebe, by Master and out of Greenwell Evorn, with her bull calf at foot, Grenwell Toronto. David and Vicky Hill of Rayson Hall, Ousby, Penrith, also paid 4,200gns for the Master-sired three year old cow, Greenwell Poppy, with her bull calf at foot.
Greenwell Fevorn, a 12 year old cow, went to Andrew and Helen Horn, of Lower Griseburn, Great Asby, Appleby, Cumbria. By Daim out of Greenwell Chevorn, she sold with her 10th calf at foot, Greenwell Tevorn.

Selling at 3,900gns to Arthur and Julie Brownrigg, of Howhill Farm, Hutton Roff, Penrith, Cumbria, was the six year old cow Greenwell Megan with her bull calf Greenwell Tracker at foot.
The Greenwell production sale was joined by guest consignments which included the Miscombe herd for Buriton Estates, Petersfield, Hampshire, selling to 3,100gns for the Broadmeadows Cannon daughter, Ronick Madam with her third calf, the bull Miscombe Trooper. Purchaser was Matt Ridley.

The consignment from the Airtnoch herd from J Templeton, Airtnoch, Fenwick, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, peaked at 1,300gns for Airtnoch Pamela, by Daim, with her May born bull calf, which sold to P Hill, of Ugthorpe, Whitby, North Yorkshire.

JM & MJ Bennett’s Threaphurst herd consignment from Coulgh House Farm, Hazel Grove, Stockport, sold to 1,700gns to Johnny Thompson, of Town Foot, Melmerby, Penrith, for the last animal through the ring, Threaphurst Sian. The 17 month old heifer is by Hartside Jacko.
