EARLY SEASON FIREWORKS AS RED LADIES SPARKLE!

Served heifers average £3806 – 86% clearance rate – Sale grosses £188,000
Eighteen more weaned calves sold on the year, heifer averages up £113.

A high quality show was rewarded with spectacular prices and tremendous averages at the Red Ladies Limousin Derby at Carlisle on Friday 4th November 2005. The sale featured a top of 18,000gns, with three animals in all attaining a five figure price and seven making 4,000gns and over. Through the catalogue sections, the strength in depth of breeding type females, bloodlines and performance figures resulted in some feisty bidding, and an excellent clearance rate sold into both new and established herds.

Topping the sale at 18,000gns was Shire Valhalla from DB Edgar, Ousby, Penrith. This August 2004 born maiden heifer is by the 55,000gns world record priced Grahams Samson and is out of Shire Renee. Earlier in the day she had been crowned Supreme Champion at the pre-sale Show by judge Mrs Anne Hirst of the Rombalds Herd, Goose Farm, Eastmoor, Sutton On The Forest, York. Shire Valhalla had a successful summer show season taking numerous first prize tickets which included winning the North West Club Heifer Derby and also has the figures to match with a Beef Value of LM+24. Buyers were Mr D & Mrs M Cormack, Abotts Close Farm, Sutton Rd, Thirsk, N Yorks. One of several profiled purchases on the day for their Newstart herd, David & Mary Cormack were particularly delighted to be taking Shire Valhalla home. Commenting, they said, “Valhalla comes from a great home and is just full of quality and breed character. She is a complete animal, right through her she just fills your eye and does not stop until she finishes!”

Going under the hammer for 14,000gns was the served heifer Glangwden Ulreka.
