A large crowd of eager bidders witnessed a new all-breeds centre record 8,800gns bid for Limousin cow Teeshan Vanoush at the BLCS Show and Sale of pedigree bulls and females held at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Monday 25th May 2009.

Leading an excellent trade for Limousin cattle was Trevor Robinson of 94 Cranhill Rd, Cullyhanna who secured all four of the top prices for females. Topping the sale was Teeshan Vanoush, a 5 year old Ronick Hawk daughter and out of the homebred dam, Teeshan Shantoush, sold with her 2 month old Wilodge Vantastic-sired heifer calf at foot at 8,800gns. Sporting a Beef Value of LM+33, Vanoush had previously been the Interbreed Champion at both Ballymena and Ballymoney Shows.

Next at 6,200gns and keeping it in the family was her mother, Teeshan Shantoush. Sired by Ashmara Nuts, Teeshan Shantoush sold with her Wilodge Vantastic bull calf at foot. Both mother and daughter had been Limousin Heifer Derby winners – Shantoush standing Reserve Champion at Glenarm in 2004 with her daughter, Vanoush, going one step better as Champion in 2006. Both females now join the Artnagullion herd of William McAllister, Kells, Co Antrim.

Third best at 6,000gns was a stylish November 2006 heifer, Teeshan Banoush, sired by Ryedale Paragon and out of the second highest priced female, Teeshan Shantoush. She was sold in calf to Cloughhead Umpire and heads to the Moneykee herd of Noel McGarrigle, Irvinestown, Co Fermanagh. The last of Mr Robinson’s sale topping cattle was Teeshan Otty, an eleven year old Derosa Masso daughter with her Wilodge Vantastic calf when purchased for 4400gns by Sam Coleman for his CKO herd at Glarryford, Co Antrim.

Leading the bull trade - which saw averages increase by over £500 on the year to average £2683 for 34 bulls sold - was Slaneburn Dara, brought forward by new breeder Charlie Magill, 10 Loughadoo Rd, Larne. Having been put up as Champion in the pre-sale Show by judge Mr William Wilson of the Tyrone Limousin Herd, this January 2008 Bapton Javelin son made 5,000gns when going under the hammer to the herd of Messrs Graham Bros at Aughafatten, Ballymena. Mr Wilson praised his Champion which he said “was a super bull with length, width and style.”

From the Best Cow Family 2008 as judged by the NI Herd Competition, this rising 17 month old bull is by Sympa and out of the Shire Milton daughter, Ballynahone Sensation. His Beef Value puts him squarely in the top 10% of breed. New owner is William Campbell, Carnlough, Co Antrim.

The Female Champion and Reserve Overall from Berry Bros, Banbridge was Banville Dot. She sold for £2205. At the halter is Jeremy Aiken, being congratulated by the judge Willie Wilson.
