Bulls available on the Semenstore were well to the fore at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s UK record breaking sale held at Carlisle on Saturday 14th February 2009. See the full sale report at www.limousin.co.uk

The top priced bull of the day at 23,000gns went to the Reserve Supreme Champion Goldies Comet. Bred and shown by BT Goldie, Townfoot Farm, Mouswald, Dumfries, this 16 month old junior bull is an AI son of the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic(available on Semenstore). This bull combined visual appearance, depth of pedigree and a tremendous Beef Value of LM+45. Successful joint purchasers were Lanarkshire-based Scottish breeders David Baillie of the Calla herd, Carnwath, and Ian Nimmo of the Mariascote herd, Bogside Farm, Newmains, Wishaw.

Standing second in his class to the top price bull was Goldies Conquest from the same home and also sired by Wilodge Vantastic. This September 2007 born bull was purchased at 12,000gns for the DWH Gascoigne Group, 1 Church Street, Southwell, Notts who run a further nine Limousin bulls in their 350 head commercial herd.

Smiths of Bloxham, Newlands Farm, Milton Road, Bloxham, Banbury sold another Wilodge Vantastic son for 8000gns. Ironstone Cromwell is a July 2007 born son of Vantastic, the Smith’s herd stock bull. Out of Ironstone Sybil, this bull went to Ayrshire and the commercial herd of W&T Nelson, High Kilphin, Ballantrae.

The very last bull in the ring and the youngest in the catalogue at 14 months of age, was Ampertaine Cannon exhibited by Messrs McKay, Kilrea Rd, Upperlands, Maghera, Co Derry, N Ireland who also made 10,500gns. This bull is by the 29,000gns Ampertaine Abracadabra (available on Semenstore) and is out of a Shire Milton daughter, Ampertaine Tennessee. Another with a red rosette, having won the last show class, he heads to pedigree breeders A & W Cowx, Hudscales, Hesket New Market, Wigton for their Hudscales herd.

Ampertaine Abracadabra was also the sire of the young September 2007 born Ampertaine Clinton, also from Messrs McKay, who sold for 4200gns to Messrs CR & MM Gollop & Sons, Slough Farm, Halberton Road, Willand, Cullompton, Devon.

Guards Columbus, from JC & SE Little, The Guards, Ireby, Wigton, Cumbria made 6,800gns when selling to the Hafodlas Herd of AH & GW Roberts Hafod Las, Ysbyty Ifan, Betws y Coed, Gwynedd. This June born bull is by the sire Vivaldi (available on Semenstore) and is out of Greenfield Rachel.

Ramses (available on Semenstore) was the sire of Newtown Clive who made 5200gns for breeders M Loughran, Dungate, Dunamore, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone. An April 2007 born bull, Newtown Clive is out of Ballyfin Vicky and he was purchased by C&SF Thomas, Hurstley Court, Kinnersley, Hereford.
