SEMENSTORE BULLS FEATURE STRONGLY IN RECORD GROSSING CARLISLE LIMOUSIN SALE

Wilodge Tonka son makes 15,500gns –
Vivaldi bulls feature strongly to a top of 13,800gns

Limousin bulls available on the Semenstore were very much to the fore at the 26th British Limousin Cattle Society Show and Sale held on Saturday May 2nd 2009 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The sale itself, underpinned by a big demand from commercial beef producers from all parts of the United Kingdom, saw 175 bulls sell to an average of £5,502. Bulls sold grossed £962,500 with the female sale held the previous evening pushing the total Limousin sale gross over the £1 Million mark. Dinmore Charmer

At 15,500gns was the July 2007 born Dinmore Charmer from the Herefordshire based herd of P Dawes, Kipperknowle Farm, Dinmore Manor. This first prize winner is an embryo calf by the increasingly prolific Wilodge Tonka, the Oxygene son sold for 30,000gns at Carlisle in October 2003 who is currently the best seller on the Semenstore site. Dinmore Charmer is out of the Brockhurst Liskeard sired Lumbylaw Oath. With a Beef Value of LM+32, this bull was snapped up by Chris Bustance for his Moulton pedigree herd based at Wimberley Hall Farm, Stonegate, Weston, Spalding, Lincolnshire. In February 2008, another Wilodge Tonka son, Dinmore Bandit, sold for 28,000gns at Carlisle.

Messrs RM Adam & Son, Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar, Angus enjoyed a fine day’s trading with their top price bull Newhouse Cyclone selling for 13,800gns. By the French AI sire Vivaldi, available on Semenstore, and out of the Rombalds Pedro daughter Newhouse Tramp, Cyclone was sold with a Beef Value of LM+52, the highest figures in the catalogue. In the show ring, this stylish bull had stood second in his class to the Overall Supreme Champion. Purchaser was J Watson for his Tweeddale pedigree herd at Bowsden Moor, Bowsden, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland. Vivaldi sired bulls featured strongly in the sale day’s trade. This French bred bull, offered on the Semenstore by Stanford Livestock, is by Omar and is out of the dam Naphtaline. He is described as ‘combining exceptional walking abilities (topline, legs and excellent feet) with growth which is very rare with such extreme muscle’.

Emslies Celt

A Vivaldi sired bull, Emslies Celt, made 10,000gns for Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. This November 2007 born bull was a first prize winner in class nineteen and eventually stood Intermediate Reserve Champion to the Overall Supreme. Emslies Celt is out of the Pennys Nimrod sired Pennys Tess, an animal purchased at the White Rose Sale in Carlisle for 5,000gns. Pennys Tess combines breeding with exceptional figures standing as the second ranked Limousin female in the country on performance. The match of Vivaldi and Pennys Tess was a mixture of muscle and maternal from the Emslies herd which now comprises some 60 breeding females. With a Beef Value of LM+37, the 900kgs Emslies Celt was sold to Mr J Thompson, Hilton of Beath Farm, Kelty, Fife for his Beath herd. Mr. Emslie also sold Emslies CLK, another embryo calf by Vivaldi and out of Pennys Tess for 5200gns to B&J Menzies, Pitlochry.

ES Norman, Little Orton Farm, Little Orton, Carlisle sold the Vivaldi sired Norman Correze for 9,500gns. This August 2007 born bull, out of Stacey Shelly sold to noted commercial man and show calf producer AJ & JA Powell, Grove Farm, Knighton, Powys. The Vivaldi son Norman Corker, September 2007 born, sold for 5000gns to JH&R Lloyd, Wigton.

The Vivaldi sired Soar Cymro from Mr RL Howatson, Plas Newydd, Nantglyn, Denbigh made 5200gns when selling to HG Blaxell & Sons, Eastfield Farm, Hickling, Norwich. This September 2007 born calf is out of the Greensons Gigolo dam Tyddyn Poshspice.

On the day, further Vivaldi sired calves in the catalogue made 4000gns and 3300gns respectively.

Ampertaine Coolcat

Ampertaine Abracadabra has been a consistent seller on the Semenstore. At the sale, the Abracadabra son Ampertaine Coolcat out of Kype Tiffany sold for 12,000gns for the vendor WJ & J McKay, 88 Kilrea Road, Upperlands, Maghera, Co Derry. Purchaser was AC Simpson & Son, McNeil Farm, Whitton-le-Wear, Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. Ampertaine Abracadabra, a Sympa son, was sold by the McKays at Carlisle in February 2007 for 29,000gns and his semen is offered on the Semenstore by Andrew Ewing & Joe Rafferty.

Dyfri Casanova from Messrs DG &MJ Edwards & Son, Home Farm, Cilycwm, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire made 10,000gns when selling to RI Owen & Co, Cwmffymon, Farm, Pandy, Llanbrynmair, Powys. This August 2007 born bull is by Nectar, available on Semenstore, and is out of the Jockey sired Dyfri Ujour. Dyfri Ujour, from the noted Tanhill Toujour family has previously bred bulls to sell to 8,000gns. The same vendor later sold a further Nectar son, Dyfri Celt for 5200gns, to WD Wright & Son, Hunthills, Dumfries.
