SEMENSTORE BULLS TO THE FORE AT THE 2009 ‘ROYAL’ SHOWS

The 2009 summer season of ‘Royal’ Shows once again showcased some fantastic Limousin breeding stock with bulls available on the Semenstore featuring strongly.

Wilodge Vantastic has been a consistent best seller on the Semenstore and this 2004 born bull, sired by Wilodge Tonka and out of Ravanelle, was the sire of some of the show season’s outstanding Limousin prizewinners.

At the Royal Welsh Show, dominated by a high quality Limousin entry, the Reserve Supreme Overall, Junior Limousin Champion, Reserve Overall Female & Junior Heifer Champion was the much admired Wilodge Diamante from Christine Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, Shrops. This May 2008 born heifer is by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic, and is out of Wilodge Amethyst who shares maternal blood lines with the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus.

This young heifer came to the Royal Welsh Show on the back of having previously stood Reserve Junior Female Champion at this year’s Royal Show, Reserve Female at the Great Yorkshire Show as well as having taken the Pedigree and Continental Championships at Beef Expo in May. Royal Welsh Show Limousin judge, William Smith, Milbrook, Oldcastle, Co Meath, was full of praise for this animal saying: “Diamante is an outstanding young heifer, very feminine with lots of style, meat in all the right places and sure to make a top cow.”

The Overall Male Champion at the Royal Welsh Show was another young bull from Christine Williams, this time in the shape of Wilodge Dallaglio, who really caught the judge and the ringsides eye. July 2008 born, Wilodge Dallaglio came out of the youngest bull class and as well as the Overall Male Championship he secured the Junior Male Championship, the Reserve Overall Junior title and rounded it off with the Interbreed Elite Beefbreeder title. William Smith was again highly impressed with this bull who was full of shape and muscle and commented:

“This is an outstanding Wilodge Vantastic son, very well balanced, with great length and a tremendous shape for the Limousin of tomorrow.” Wilodge Dallaglio is full of breeding being out of the dam Sarkley Bellola, a Cloughhead Lord daughter, that was purchased for 24,000gns in 2007 at Carlisle. Sure to be much anticipated, Wilodge Dallaglio is now destined for Carlisle.

Wilodge Diamante and Wilodge Dallaglio teamed up to make a cracking pair, both Wilodge Vantastic sired, that secured the Limousin Pairs title. The individual titles were cemented by Wilodge Diamante being part of the winning Team of Five.

Dinmore Daffodil from Mr P Dawes, Kipperknowle Farm, Dinmore Manor, Herefordshire secured the Resreve Junior Female title at the Royal Welsh Show. February 2008 born, Dinmore Daffodil is again by Wilodge Vantastic and is out of Croftlimousin Primrose. The previous heifer class had also seen a first prize ticket for another Dinmore female, Dinmore Caprice. September 2007 born, Dinmore Caprice is also by Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the Oxygene sired Wilodge Viceless. These two heifers then teamed up with the Nenuphar sired Dinmore Countess, April 2007 born, to form a strong and winning Limousin Group of Three.

At the Royal Ulster Show, Raymond Crawford, Rathkeeland, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh exhibited the Overall Junior Champion & Junior Female Champion, Sylvandene Duchess from the youngest heifer class. Bred by Mr J Baird, Sylvandene Duchess is another classy young heifer sired by Wilodge Vantastic and out of Sylvandene Velvet.

Mr & Mrs R&J Graham, Airthrey Kerse Dairy Farm, Bridge of Allan, Stirling enjoyed a highly successful Royal Highland Show at Ingliston in June with their young bull Grahams Dynamite securing the Overall Reserve Male, Junior Male and Junior Championships. On the Saturday morning, Grahams Dynamite, the youngest entry in the line-up, secured the Marks & Spencer Beefbreeder Interbreed title. This July 2008 born bull is by Samy and is out of the dam, Lisette, who is the mother of Grahams Samson, the then world record priced bull when purchased for 55,000gns by Doug Edgar in 2003. Samy is the multi-title nine time ‘Royal’ interbreed winning stock bull whose progeny have also sold up to 26,000gns. A full French bull, he is bred by Earl Lagautriere, and is sired by Loriot and out of the dam, Nova.

From the same home, Grahams Davinia secured the Reserve Female Championship at the Royal Highland. The stylish 24th June 2008 born heifer had won the day’s first class before moving on to the Junior Female Championship. Davinia is by Grahams Alexander, a Samy son, and is out of the French bred Alexandrie.

A team sired by Grahams Unbeatable won the Group of Three title at the Royal Show held at Stoneleigh for the Rosecroft herd of South West breeder Mr DK Wheeler, Kentisbeare, Nr Cullompton, Devon. Grahams Unbeatable was purchased for 35,000gns at the ILC World Limousin Congress Sale held in 2004. His sons have subsequently sold up to 10,500gns whilst his first daughter sold at auction for 6,600gns.
