Bulls available on the Semenstore were again to the fore and none more
so than the Overall Reserve Champion, Emslies Black Empire who himself
made a little bit of history for breeder Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw,
Peterhead, Aberdeenshire when he sold for 26,000gns. The price was a
new UK auction record for a black Limousin bull and Empire is also the
first black bull to feature in the championship prizes at a Limousin
Society Sale at Carlisle. Born in February 2009, Emslies Black Empire
is by the powerful Bailea
Black BMW who himself held the previous record
for a black Limousin bull when he was purchased by Harry Emslie for
25,000gns from MT Jones & Son at Perth in February 2008. On the dam line, Empire
is out of the Ronick Jalopy-sired Shannas Polly, one of four foundation
females originally bought from the Shannas herd of John & Margaret
Penny by Harry Emslie Snr for his Coynach pedigree herd. Heading back
to Aberdeenshire, Emslies Black Empire was purchased by Mr AG Howie,
West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead for his Knock pedigree herd.
From the same class, Emslies Black Enigma, also consigned by Harry
Emslie made 6800gns when selling to the Swarland pedigree herd of Messrs
A&D
Proctor, Swarland Old Hall, Morpeth, Northumberland. Another son of Bailea
Black BMW, Enigma is out of the Domino sired Ballymoney Violet.
Bailea Black
BMW is available on Semenstore at £25.00 per straw.
The Sympa son, Ampertaine
Abracadabra sired bulls in the sale that made
7500 and 6000gns respectively. At 7500gns was Kaprico Donato from Messrs
AK & C Stafford, Houghton Le Spring, Sunderland. Extremely well bred,
this November 2008 born bull is by Abracadabra and is out of the Ronick
Hawk sired Kaprico Ultimate, the Royal Show Supreme Limousin Champion
and Burke Trophy Interbreed winner in 2006. With a Beef Value of LM+44,
Kaprico Donato was purchased by Mr & Mrs PW&SM Greed for their
Killerton pedigree herd at Columbjohn Farm Ltd, Rewe, Exeter, Devon.
At 6000gns was the Senior Section bull Haymount Debussy from Mr WT
Arnott, Haymount, Kelso, Scottish Borders. Again by Abracadabra, this
July 2008 born bull is out of the homebred Sarkley Pepsi sired Haymount
Ursula. The purchaser was K Russell, Crouse Farm, Wigtown.
Ampertaine
Abracadabra semen is available on Semenstore at £40.00
per straw.
Messrs DG & MJ Edwards, Home Farm, Cilycwm, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire,
sold the Nectar sired Dyfri Dolig for 7500gns. Dyfri Dolig emerged from
the strong Junior Section and is by Nectar and out of the Jockey sired
Dyfri Truffle one of the top cows in the Dyfri herd. December 2008 born,
Dyfri Dolig was purchased by Hepburn Farms, Chatton, Alnwick, Northumberland.
Nectar semen sells for £50.00 per straw on the Semenstore.
Mr & Mrs N Matthews, Pye Brook Farm, Sutton, Stanton Lacy, Shropshire
sold two sons of Saunders
Stallone for 5000gns. The first of these was
the November 2008 Pyebrook Dalton who is by Stallone and is out of the
Ronick Iceman sired Rachels Saffron. Purchaser was J Evans & Son,
Ffostyll, Talgarth, Brecon. Also at 5000gns was the youngest bull in
the catalogue, the March 2009 born Pyebrook Empire. Again by Stallone,
this bull is out of the seven-year-old Breconside Una. Buying the final
lot was GH Wallis & Son, Gingle Pot Farm, Marske, Richmond, North
Yorkshire.
Semen from Saunders
Stallone can be purchased for £15.00 per
straw through the Semenstore.
At the end of the day’s trading, 151 bulls sold in all to record
a strong average of £5461. Four bulls made 20,000gns or more, with
16 in total at 10,000gns and over, and 45 in all at 5,000gns or more.
The clearance rate for bulls was 66% of the 229 offered for sale. On
the Friday evening, the top priced female of the 32 sold was the maiden
heifer Heathmount Dazzler from McKinney Brothers, who made 22,000gns.
