TAURUS INSURANCE

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Limousin Solutions Ltd working with to provide the insurances?
The Taurus Initiative is working with Crowe Livestock Underwriting Ltd who are providing cover for British Limousin Cattle Society members and customers, for the insurance of pedigree livestock.

Who are Crowe Livestock Underwriting Ltd (Crowe Livestock)?
Crowe Livestock Underwriting Ltd is a Lloyds tribunalised Underwriting Agency, and are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Based in Norfolk, Crowe Livestock operates at the forefront of the global livestock insurance industry in all livestock classes, and has a team of highly experienced Underwriters with specialists in cattle, embryos and semen.

Why Taurus AgriDirect?
The insurance initiative operates under the name of Taurus AgriDirect which is part of Limousin Solutions Ltd. For day to day use it is simply known as Taurus. Taurus has two FSA approved representatives of Crowe Livestock who can take instruction for the insurances offered. Insurances are provided through Crowe Livestock.

What livestock sale cover does the Taurus insurance initiative provide?
The insurance initiative provides at least like-for-like cover as is presently available from insurance providers. Pre-sale contracts are offered to vendors for Luck Penny Insurance. This package comprises of NBA Breeding Warranty (6 months) along with All Risks Mortality and Loss of Use Insurance (3 months). In the event of a Luck Penny insurance, the purchaser is offered the opportunity to top up to 12 months at a very competitive rate. The Luck Penny insurance also includes Transit to the sale.

Breeding Warranty Insurance covers the vendor’s warranty i.e. as per the NBA warranty at sales. This is also available as a separate insurance. If chosen as an insurance, a vendor’s whole bull consignment at sale must be insured.

Are the insurances competitive?
Yes. This is another principal aim of the initiative. It is very much the goal to provide robust and imaginative insurance packages that meet members’ and customers’ service requirements and are also competitively priced.

Can I place insurance at the respective sale centres on the day?
To provide an imaginative marketing strategy, insurance packages will be made available ideally for pre-sale purchase by vendors of cattle at Society Sales. These will be able to be placed up until 5.00pm on the Friday evening before a Saturday sale for instance. This is similar to the present situation where vendors insure sale animals through an external insurer and not the in-house company.

Please note: Taurus has two appointed representatives of Crowe Livestock who are Financial Services Authority approved and can take your insurance instructions at the time of the sale. Please speak to these Taurus FSA approved representatives who will be available at the official BLCS Sales.

What flexibility do I have in insuring sale animals?
Pre-sale insurance is the simplest and most efficient way to progress. Again as above, you will be able to speak to the Taurus representatives who will be available at the official BLCS Sales or telephone the Taurus Insurance telephone number on the given sale day to discuss any insurance related queries and / or to take out the insurance you require.

Is the insurance available for all Collective Society Sales & Official Society Breeders’ Sales?
Yes. This is another unique aspect of this arrangement. Proposal forms will continue to be sent out to all vendors for all Official Collective Sales including the Carlisle, Perth, Brecon, and Aberdeen venues respectively.

At Official Breeders’ sales, if the given animals are vetted as being of a standard insurance risk and have a vet’s letter / certificate to that effect then they will be eligible for insurance. The required vet’s letter and certificates to be filled in are also available to be downloaded from this site. *Please also note livestock at farm, and club sales which can also be considered for insurance as detailed below.

Who can I speak to regarding my insurance requirements?
You can call Crowe Livestock direct where you will be able to discuss any aspects of the Taurus insurances that you may require. You may wish to ask for specific quotes, more information on how the initiative works, what other insurances are available and any other general related queries. Any claims will also be handled through the same telephone number. The contact details are all given on this site. You can also speak to the Taurus approved representatives on 02476 696500.

Will I be able to insure livestock at farm?
Yes, this cover will also be available through the initiative. As is standard, all animals would have to have been vetted and have a vet’s letter / certificate to this end. Again, you will simply telephone the given number to discuss your requirements and quotes will be duly given. The required Cattle Veterinary Certificate of Health, Purchaser Proposal Form and Cattle Declaration of Health to be filled in are also available to be downloaded from this site.

Will I be able to insure bulls presented at Club Sales?
This will be similar to insuring livestock at farm. If the given animals are vetted as being of a standard insurance risk and have a vet’s letter / certificate to that effect then they would be able to be insured. The required Cattle Veterinary Certificate of Health, Vendor Proposal Form and Cattle Declaration of Health to be filled in are also available to be downloaded from this site.

What other insurances are available?
It is the initiative’s aim to provide tailor-made and practical insurance solutions for livestock farmers. As indicated with cattle, all renewals, show team cover and also export of cattle cover will be offered.

As the initiative develops it is a further aim to introduce forms of loyalty bonus and no claims bonus.
